1859
Creation of Adam Wilson and Sons
Adam Wilson took over a small sawmill at Sorn and over the next 170 years, under the guidance of six generations of the Wilson family, the Company has continued to evolve.​

1977
Purchase of Lanfine and Avondale Estates at Darvel
Finlay Wilson (4th generation) decided to expand the forestry side of the business and bought this land, with a strategic plan of planting forestry for the sawmilling industry.

1983
Development of ultra-modern Troon Sawmill
By the 1980s investment was made to develop a state-of-the-art sawmill facility in Troon, still in operation today. This was capable of supplying the housing market which had previously been dependent on imported timber and enabled the company to diversify from producing pit props for the mining industry.

2008
Adam Wilsons was sold to the Glennon Brothers but with the forestry retained under the umbrella of Wilson Forest Products Ltd, the parent company of the Wilson Renewables LLPs.

2003
Forest Fire
A catastrophic forest fire destroyed circa 2000 acres of forestry at Avondale Estate. Whilst this was devastating for the family, it was the turning point for the strategic move into the renewable energy field.

2012
Bankend Rig Wind Farm
The first turbines started to roll into Bankend Rig Wind Farm and when commissioned in 2012 was capable of generating 14.3 MW of clean energy into the local grid network. A large portion of the land owned by Wilson Forest Products was set aside to be used by the windfarm development for habitat improvement and this area of land continues to be actively managed by a group of statutory advisors and contractors.

Bankend Rig 2
Wilson Renewables II LLP recieve planning consent for Bankend Rig 2 Wind Farm, 3 wind turbines with a tip height of 126.5m capable of producing 3.4 MW each.
Wilson Forest Products forms a partnership with Banks Renewables to develop a six wind turbine farm at Mill Rig capable of producing 36MW.

The next step for the family is to develop further projects at Bankend Rig 3 and Hawkwood which is currently out to public consultation.
